Central Queensland Audiology (and Hearing Aid Services) was first established in 1993 by audiologist Sue Walmsley. Audiological services were provided through a permanent clinic located in Rockhampton and two visiting sites (Mackay and Gladstone). In addition to hearing assessments and hearing rehabilitation (hearing aids), Sue also offered tinnitus evaluation and management and implemented noise surveys, hearing conservation programs and audiometry courses. In response to growing client numbers, a second audiologist, Kate Moore, joined Central Queensland Audiology in 1997.
In 1999 Central Queensland Audiology acquired the Mater Hospital Audiology & Diagnostic Centre following the departure of the regions' then only Ear, Nose & Throat specialists. This facility had provided diagnostic services to adults, children and babies including auditory brainstem response testing, electrocochleography and balance testing with the majority of referrals coming from doctors. The provision of hearing conservation programs was also promoted and managed by staff at the Mater clinic.
Following Kate Moore's return to Victoria in 2000, Sara Morin was employed as a full-time audiologist. A third audiologist, Ronel Cronje served on a part-time basis over two periods from 2002-2005. Howard Walmsley and Nerida McClean joined the audiological team in 2006.
In 2006, Dewar House in Denham Street was identified as a great location for combining our two Rockhampton clinics. Service delivery from this location commenced in November 2006 with a name change to Central Queensland Hearing.
Central Queensland Hearing has provided audiological services to Gladstone and Mackay since its inception in 1993 with Yeppoon added as a visiting site in 2004.
Service delivery in Gladstone was increased to three days per week from 2006.
